Lana Del Rey Dealt With Alcohol Addiction As A Teen
Tales of Addiction
Stories have emerged online claiming singer and songwriter Lana Del Rey struggled with alcoholism as a young girl. It appears these claims are true, and in recent statements on the matter, Del Rey says that alcohol addiction was “the worst thing that ever happened” to her.
According to recent news, she was just 14 years old when she realized her excessive drinking was out of control. Her parents were worried, while Lana struggled to keep up the “cool” habit of binge drinking as a young teen. Lana says she eventually discovered patterns about her drinking that made them destructive including:
• The fact that she was drinking alone.
• She was using alcohol every day.
• Alcohol use became more enjoyable than anything else.
Finally, her family made the decision to send Lana to a boarding school in Connecticut, called Kent School for a strict schedule and rigorously structured environment necessary to lasting sobriety.
A Young Addict…
Though the fact that someone as young as Lana Del Rey could be struggling with such a big problem was initially shocking (the prospect of a young 14-year-old girl struggling with alcoholism and even being sent to recovery) this situation is sadly more common than most would think. In today’s high schools, kids as young as 12 and 13 years old begin smoking pot, drinking alcohol and doing harder drugs during the school day and even on school property. In many ways, I would actually say that drug addiction rehab for youth is resource we may be lacking in the United States, along with effective and potent prevention strategy.
A Successful Future for Lana Del Rey
While Lana says she recognized at this young age that she had a dark side to her that was obviously out of control. Many speculate she still struggles with substance abuse today. Lana’s latest album Born to Die, months of busy touring and a controversial GQ magazine cover have earned her quite a bit attention in the entertainment world.
