Drug Rehab Programs

With all of the drug rehab programs across the country it can be difficult to determine what kind of drug addiction help works best. That’s where it helps to speak to someone who knows what kind of drug rehabilitation programs are out there, about addiction and what to do. Many professionals in field don’t really understand addiction and how it works; some even do not have first hand knowledge or experience with addiction and only know what they have read or learned in school. You really should consider the drug rehab programs that employ former addicts who have clean time and have walked the walk.

Drug rehab programs are abundant and usually come in one of four kinds for the most part. Most of the drug rehab centers out there use the Alcoholics Anonymous and come in a variety of forms that include outpatient drug rehab programs, inpatient drug rehab programs and meetings that are attended at will.

There are also Christian based drug rehab programs that use scripture as guide to navigate through life and appoint God as the primary source of salvation and drug free living. These kind of drug treatment programs are usually 12-18 months long and do have a very strict admissions and enrollment policies. Although the twelve step program uses a higher power as well and is somewhat religious based, the approach is a little different and uses a specific approach to sobriety. It is unfortunate that the twelve step program achieves about a 2-8% success rate although if the 90 meetings in 90 days required as follow up are attended the success rate can reach somewhere between 16-20%.

Drug rehab programs that use the non denominational Christian approach do have strict admissions policies as mentioned however due to this (and other reasons) the success rates can be much higher. Drug rehabilitation programs of this nature shift the focus back to God, but one contributing factor that helps is the length of time in the program. Studies have shown drug rehab programs greatly increase the chances of success the longer they are.

There are drug rehab programs that achieve much higher success rates, are secular, meaning non religious and basically cover all aspects of addiction and give the person the tools needed to work with that help relapse prevention. These kinds of drug rehab centers have a several phase approach and are considered a biophysical- social education model program and achieve over a 75% success rate and are about 3-5 months in length, inpatient.

Drug rehab programs should allow for all things to be considered, mental and physical that would cause a person to crave drugs or alcohol. Drug treatment programs do have an obligation to deliver the best possible drug rehab treatment possible but it is up to the family to understand addiction and help determine what works best.
